Compact double-wing cavity gap waveguide twist for E-band antenna systems
Paper in proceeding, 2021

Millimeter-wave waveguide twists are needed in 5G antenna systems. Due to the small dimensions at mmWave regime, the manufacture of conventional waveguide twists becomes a big challenge. A new waveguide twist by employing the gap waveguide technology and double-wing cavities is proposed in this paper, which does not require conductive contact between step sections so that the wielding or soldering is avoided. This new technology reduces the number of the steps for the twists significantly with a wide frequency band and a low cost. A prototype of the three-section double-wing cavity gap waveguide 90 twist at E-band is manufactured and measured. The measured results agree well with the simulations.
