Cardiovascular impact of Sugar and Fat
Rapport, 2011

Sugar increases blood glucose and glycosylation of LDL and other lipoproteins. Omega-6 fatty acids are enriched in LDL and sensitive to lipid peroxidation. Glycosylated and peroxidized LDL initiates atherosclerosis. Soft drinks and Becel margarines are discussed as harmful sources of sugar and omega-6 fat. Artificial lowering of blood cholesterol by phytosterols or statin drugs is questioned.
