In Sweden the lowcarb diets are now followed by great interest in healthier choices of dietary fats. This report emphasizes basic biochemical aspects. Saturated and monounsaturated fats from milk and meat are safe sources of energy. Fats to be avoided are reactive polyunsaturated seed fats causing destructive lipid peroxidation. Fish is an ideal source of the essential fatty acids EPA and DHA.
