Slot Array Antenna Unit Cell directly Fed by Inverted Microstrip Gap Waveguide

This paper describes a single-layer slot array antenna at 60-GHz by applying inverted microstrip gap waveguide, a mechanically flexible transmission line for millimeter wave. The antenna unit cell consists of a 2 × 2 slot sub-array and a simple corporate-fed networks. The manufactured prototype shows more than 12% impedance bandwidth over 57.7--- 65.7 GHz with reflection coefficient below -10 dB. The infinite array environment has been utilized to determine the total efficiency, including the aperture efficiency and radiation efficiency, for a 16 × 16 array antenna. The total efficiency of 70% and a directivity of 33 dBi over 57 - 66 GHz have been achieved.
