Chattering Free High Order Sliding Mode Observer for Estimation of Liquid Water Fraction in a Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell

In this work, a methodology for the estimation of the liquid fraction of the liquid fraction of a proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) is developed. Specifically, a model-based chattering-free high order sliding mode (CHOSM) observer is designed for the estimation of two dynamic states: the PEMFC temperature and the liquid water saturation. The observation strategy is discussed in a simulation environment using the common ARTEMIS driving cycle (CADC) as a case study.
