Reduction of nitrogen oxide emissions from wood chip grate furnaces
Paper i proceeding, 2000

The purpose of the project was the development of wood chip grate furnaces with nitrogen oxide emissions that are substantially lower than emissions of the previous state of the art designs. The three-year project contained fundamental research in laboratory, investigations on test furnaces, and prototype experiments to test the developed NOx reduction methods in practical operation. The results show the NOx emissions from wood chip grate furnaces can be significantly reduced by primary (combustion chamber design, combustion air staging and control, fuel staging) as well as by secondary measures (SCR, SNCR). Prototype components for NOx reduction have been successfully tested and are ready for practical application. Exploitation of the results has already started by the industrial partners.
