Maria de Oliveira Laurin

Doctoral Student at Maritime Studies

Maria de Oliveira Laurin's research focuses on road transport decarbonization at the local level, with a special focus on small-town and non-urban municipalities. Her research is conducted by merging qualitative tools (participatory approach through close collaboration with municipality officials) with energy optimization systems modeling. In short, Maria's research identifies cross-sectoral synergy and competition between different non-fossil fuels – biofuels, electricity, and hydrogen. Moreover, Maria's work focuses on understanding the linkages between meeting the local short-term goals versus meeting the national long-term CO2 reduction target.
