Sara Piras

Doctoral Student at Astronomy and Plasmaphysics

Sara Piras finished her master in February 2018 at the University of Cagliari in Italy. As of September 2nd 2019 She is a PhD student in the division of Astronomy and Plasma Physics.
The goal of Sara's PhD project is to study cosmic magnetism through observations of the polarized radiation from active galaxies (i.e., galaxies with an accreting supermassive black hole) and star-forming galaxies. The project will make use of the LOw Frequency ARray (LOFAR), in conjunction with other radio interferometers such as the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT, in India) and the Jansky Very Large Array (JVLA, in the U.S.A). Sara's research is also concerned with developing new methods to analyze large datasets and to model the propagation of polarized radiation.
