Giulio Maistro is a Phd. The title of his thesis is: Low-temperature carburizing/nitriding of austenitic stainless steels - Influence of alloy composition on microstructure and properties.He has belonged to the group Surface and Microstructure Engineering since 2013. His research focuses on the Surface Engineering on Austenitic Stainless Steel by Nitrogen Stabilized Expanded Austenite. The study concerns preparation and characterization of expanded austenite via plasma nitriding. Characterization techniques include X-Ray Phoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Auger Electron Spectroscopy (AES), Electron Back Scattered Diffraction (EBSD) and Optical Microscopy (OM). The goal is to expand the physical and structural knowledge on this metastable phase, particularly promising for applications in wearing and corrosive environments. Giulio is involved in teaching activities as assistant for Materials Engineering, Corrosion and Materials Characterization courses.
