Michael Martindale
Michael Martindale joined the Division of Industrial Biotechnology as a PhD student in April 2024. He earned his MSc in Biotechnology from the University of Galway, Ireland, in 2023. His research focuses on understanding yeast biocontrol mechanisms, namely biogenic volatile organic compounds (BioVOCs). The aim is to identify yeasts that possess strong biocontrol capacity against phytopathogenic moulds, which are then intended to be incorporated into a living material system. This will result in a novel method to reduce post-harvest food waste, specifically that of fruits and vegetables.
