Nathália Vilela
Nathália Vilela joined the Industrial Biotechnology Division as a Postdoc in September 2022. She earned her Ph.D. at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP), Brazil, in 2022. Her research investigates the molecular mechanisms of microbial robustness: microorganisms' ability to maintain performance under varying conditions. She focuses on how adaptative laboratory evolution (ALE) could alter yeast robustness, characterizing the genetic and phenotypic profiles of the microorganism. The knowledge obtained will contribute to designing more robust yeast cell factories, improving industrial bioprocesses. Furthermore, she contributes to further developing the concept of investigating microbial robustness, by working on co-cultures and microbial contamination of bioethanol fermentations.
