Floor systems in timber-concrete-composite for more efficient constructions
Research Project, 2021
Composite elements of timber wood and concrete make it possible to take advantage of the benefits of both materials, i.e. the light weight and low carbon footprint of the timber and low price and high mass of concrete leading to good weight / strength ratios and favorable vibration and acoustic behavior. Timber-Concrete Composite (TCC) elements achieve a lower climate impact than pure concrete construction and at the same time widen the field of application in timber construction. They are already used successfully as efficient, sustainable and economical flooring solutions in multi-storey buildings in various markets around the world. In the project the TCC flooring system shall be adapted and optimized as a versatile solution to fulfill the needs of the Swedish market considering the companies involved in the construction process and focussing on the reduced weight, faster assembly, higher quality, lower environmental impact, possibility for deconstruction and circularity.
