Solution to challenges of extremely-high-gain 50dBi+ 70GHz+ Antennas with a new Gapwave feed Technology
Research Project, 2020
– 2021
Purpose and goal
The aim of the project "Solution to challenges of extremely high gain 50dBi + 70GHz + antennas with a new Gapwave feeding technology" was to find a solution to, dynamically during operation, be able to adjust the direction of a "high gain antennas" main-lobe to compensate for the fact that the antenna physically turns on due to wind load. The project has analysed the problem and come up with a solution that should work in practice.
Expected results and effects
The project has succeeded in developing a solution and partially verified it on a prototype and partially verified it in the simulator. We intend to proceed with this project to develop a complete solution and fully verify it.
Planned approach and implementation
The work has been conducted in an efficient small project group. The work was divided in 5 different workpackages. WP1 Design of the Gapwave feed. WP2 Manufacture Prototype & verifying the design with measurements. WP3 Analysis and proposal of system specifications. WP4 Feasibility Investigation of integration of tracking function. WP5 Analysis of the sidelobe performance and investigation of the solutions to suppress sidelobes envelop
