Optimal patient flows in the emergency care process
Research Project, 2021
– 2023
Purpose and goal
This project will analyze current practices at the psychiatric emergency room at Östra Sjukhuset and develop an AI-based system to improve patient flows in emergency care. The project´s objective is to improve the information overview for clinical decisions and patient flows and deliver predictive and proactive decision support for psychiatric emergency care both at its test site Sahlgrenska Universitetssjukhuset, but also the global market which is available through the project partners Predicare and Chalmers Universitet.
Expected results and effects
Expected outcomes from the project 1) shorter waiting times, 2) reduced experience of stress for staff, 3) improved overview of the current situation in the emergency room, patient plans and resource planning and 4) improved support for clinical decisions and patient flow.
Planned approach and implementation
Sahlgrenska University Hospital Psychiatric Emergency Department will act as the project leader as well as the needs owner. Sahlgrenska will be key in usability evaluation and improvements, in tool validation and will be the place where the solution will be piloted and evaluated. Predicare will contribute with RETTS algorithms, application development, predictive process modelling and will drive the work of defining best practices. Chalmers University of Technology will lead the development of the dashboard and analytics for the emergency department based on historical data.
