Advanced geographical prediction of electric vehicles for network planning purposes
Research Project, 2021
As electricity production becomes increasingly distributed, and as consumers electricity consumption changes with new loads such as electric vehicles, the strain on grid infrastructure increase. Sweden have already seen areas where lack of grid capacity has had societal implications. To improve grid planning, EU has established a new directive (2019/944) that require grid operators to conduct 5-10 year plans of local production/consumption within their distribution system. These directives are currently being adapted to Sweden. The purpose with this project is to developed a prototype of a model that can predict new local production/consumption with a time frame of 5-10 years. The model has a geographical resolution of a few hundred meters. Making predictions of future production/consumption within local areas will lead to a more efficient grid planning and reduce risk of future capacity constraints.
