Carbon fibre textile reinforced lightweight concrete with green binder and recycled aggregates
Research Project, 2021
– 2022
Purpose and goal: This project aims to test a new idea for carbon fiber textile (CFT) reinforced lightweight concrete with green binder and recycled ballast with sufficient load-bearing capacity to replace the current heavy steel-reinforced concrete.
The overall goal of the project is to develop a lightweight construction system with a decreased amount of cement and natural ballast as well as increased durability. Therefore, load-bearing concrete can be manufactured with less density for better use of various green binders and recycled aggregate without corrosion problems. Expected results and effects: This project with positive results can lead to a large R&D project to demonstrate the application of carbon fiber textile reinforced concrete in buildings and infrastructures at a technology readness level (TRL) up to 6-7. With positive results from the study, the construction industry and the recycling industry can benefit from the results. SMEs that process recycled materials (e.g. recycled ballast) and supply air entraining agents and technologies, as well as new SMEs that invest in nano-impregnation technologies for carbon fiber reinforcements will benefit from the results.
