Research Project, 2023 – 2024

Background INSU AB

INSU AB is owned by Installationsföretagen (IN).IN is a membership organization that is part of the Swedish Confederation of Business.IN has 3,700 member companies that ensure that functions such as water, electricity, heating, cooling, ventilation, alarms and fiber work in buildings and businesses.
Background INSU ABINSU AB is owned by Installationsföretagen (IN). IN is a membership organization that is part of the Swedish Confederation of Business.IN has 3,700 member companies that ensure that functions such as water, electricity, heating, cooling, ventilation, alarms and fiber work in buildings and businesses. The companies have around 56,000 employees.INSU offers apprenticeships, basic and further education as well as university of applied sciences courses. BIM and 3-DBIM with 3-D BIM stands for Building Information Modeling, which means that architectural drawings, construction drawings and installation drawings as well as products with descriptions are stored in a BIM model for a construction.BIM will then become a database that can be used throughout the construction project but also for service and maintenance. Directions are stored in the BIM model in the form of 3-D models.VR stands for Virtual Reality, which allows one to several 3-D models and information to be displayed in the VRset.ObjectiveThe application relates to a study of a training component for Installation Coordinators that INSU has begun to develop. The study is a part of the entire project. The results of the study will influence and be used to improve the training, first for the training of installation coordinators to later be implemented in up to 26 other training courses within INSU.Furthermore, several technical universities will use the training. The application for the study refers to a research project, a sub-project in the whole project The study will operate as a research project. The project involves applied research where a study of the effects of training elements within BIM, 3-D and VR instead of 2-D in the installation area is carried out.The result will result in a scientific publication. The study means that the education is verified by Chalmers University of Technology -CTH.CTH will make the evaluation available in the form of a research report to see how work steps can be made more efficient and increase quality with the help of BIM-VR for installation coordinators. The study is planned to be carried out with both qualitative and quantitative elements. The study in this application is planned to provide a scientific basis on the advantages and disadvantages of BIM, 3-D models and VR for an installation coordinator. Results of this research project will be used to further develop educational elements within BIM/VR. This study refers to New Applications area This application aims to measure how the work efficiency and quality of an installation coordinator using 3-D models and VR. Performance goals This project responds to the following impact objectives.More efficient processes regarding time and cost – from planning to long-term management in the installation area.Increased productivity within the sectorFUI environments established for increased cooperation between the sector´s actors, academia and research institutes The project will provide significantly better training in the installation area regarding BIM, 3-D and VR. The target group for all training in BIM/3D/VR that INSU will provide includes the entire installation industry in Sweden, i.e. over 65,000 people. Implementation of the study to which the application relatesPrior to the study, an education in BIM/VR has been created as above. The study will include the following elements: Design of evaluation based on scenario-based VR exercisesDesign of study and hypothesesConducting an evaluation studyAnalysis of data and compilation of resultsProcessing, analysis and publication of results Timeframe of studyThe training of installation coordinators will be carried out under INSU´s auspices in the spring of 2024 and the study is planned to be completed on December 31, 2024.The total number of months will then be 17 months.
