E-machine design for enhanced recyclability and minimized environmental impact
Research Project, 2020 – 2025

In this project, various electrical machines aimed for propulsion of electrical vehicles are investigated and benchmarked again todays state of the art rare-earth-metal-equipped electrical propulsion machines in terms of electromechanical performance and environmental impact. Induction machines as well as synchronous reluctance machines are investigated with both copper and aluminum stator windings (in a prolonged project also the ferrite magnet machine is to be treated). Designs prepared for recyclability is furthermore an aspect to be treated, in particular the use of tooth coil windings and alternative potting materials. The machines are investigated from electromechanical perspective (energy efficiency as well as torque and power density) as well as for their environmental impact.  The machines developed in this project, and those in the previous project, are then compared in these respects.
