SIJET - Swedish industrial capability for jet engines
Research Project, 2025
– 2029
Purpose and goal
The purpose and goal of the project is to strengthen Sweden’s and GKN Aerospace’s industrial capabilities in jet engine technology, as well as to promote international collaborations. This is achieved by developing an experimental jet engine demonstrator for system validation of new technologies, design concepts, and methods before they are implemented in operational engines. The project also fosters knowledge transfer in the ecosystem, contributing to a resilient Swedish aerospace ecosystem.
Expected effects and result
The project will contribute to strengthened Swedish competitiveness in jet engine technology/propulsion and system integration. It will deliver an engine demonstrator and a system validation platform for new methods, design concepts, and technologies. The project generates positive societal impact through competence development, new job opportunities, and reduced environmental impact by applying sustainable manufacturing methods.
Planned approach and implementation
The work is carried out in collaboration between GKN Aerospace, KTH, and Chalmers, with plans to include additional academic partners, research institutes, and SMEs. The project is structured into several work packages, with GKN Aerospace acting as the system integrator and responsible for system validation. Results will be disseminated through technical publications, conference presentations, trainings, student projects, theses, and a technical roadmap for national jet engine development.
