CIRCULAR MATERIALS AND MANUFACTURING EXCELLENCE CLUSTER
Research Project, 2025
– 2026
Purpose and goal
The cluster aims at facilitiating innovative material solutions across the material groups for both metals and composites with AI-supported and validated models and integration of all aspects for full implementation (material properties, processability, sustainability and commercial aspects). The goal is a future cluster of excellence that aims to significantly reduce the cost and time required for the development and qualification of new sustainable materials through these efforts.
Expected effects and result
Swedish industry is in a transition with clear leadership when it comes to science-based targets 1-3. This requires sustainable material solutions. This in turn requires new ways of working and strategies. The project has this as its starting point and addresses how digital technology and material technology support material innovation, how experimental technology can accelerate material evaluation and how relevant manufacturing technology can be scaled and integrated along value chains.
Planned approach and implementation
The initiative is led by Chalmers and involves in the planning phase KTH, JU, HV and RISE as well as industrial partners from the automotive and aerospace industries (GKN Aerospace, Volvo Group, Volvo Cars, SAAB). The team brings together complementary skills and proven collaboration capabilities and work will lead to a complete constellation with additional skills and actors. The national ecosystem for the initiative is developed via dialogue meetings and international
