Remote sensing database for climate studies (RESDACS)
Research Project, 2012 – 2014

This application in intended to establish an open database with all the dataseries that have been collected over the years by the four earth observation groups at The Department of Earth and Space Science. These include data from the Odin satellite, ground-based instruments at Onsala Space Obseravatory including the GPS network and the new gravimeter, The volcanic observatory network NOVAC that has been established through a number of EU funded projects. The main idea is to make the data visible through Environment and Climate Data Sweden (ECDS) hosted at SMHI by generating the relevant metadata and to provide tools to make the data accessable even to non-expert users. Such tools might include for example extraction of data series for a given geographical location from a number of datasets, or generation of properly interpolated maps of data from datasets with gaps. By making the data widely and easily available we hope to increase the already significant scientific value of these data and to ensure their survival for future researchers.
