Enhanced safety of ice-strengthened ship hulls in the Baltic Sea (pre-study ICEULTIMATE)
Research Project, 2016

The main project objective is to analyse the accidental limit state of ship hull structures at ice-covered sea areas designed according to the Finnish-Swedish Ice class rule and IACS Polar Code. The project will help to evaluate the safety level of the current ice class rules in various ice conditions and in relation to ship types. This knowledge is currently not detailed enough and thus contains uncertainty related to the existing design guidelines and requirements. The project outcome will be improved design standards and enhanced safety of shipping, reduced number of accidents and thus reduced negative effects on the Baltic Sea.
