MAXA MEDTEK - A stronger link between Swedish medical technology industry and the infrastructure initiatives in Lund
Research Project, 2018 – 2019

MAX IV is the largest Swedish research initiative and is unlike ESS a national investment. One sector that has been identified to potentially have great use of the techniques available at MAX IV and ESS, is the MedTech industry. This industrial sector that involves for example implants, devices, and diagnostics is very diverse and several various applications techniques may be of interest. Many industries have none or very limited experience from the techniques that are or will become available at these large facilities. The first thing needed is knowledge of which techniques can answer specific question within the industry sector. It is important to know when to use such bright source as the one available at MAX IV, how to set up the experiments, interpret the results, how to apply for beam time, etc. For Swedish industry to take full advantage of and use the full potential from both MAX IV and ESS it is vital that companies get help to get started. If Swedish industry gets involved during the development phase of these facilities, they will also be able to influence the development in accordance with industry needs. The purpose of this project is to achieve increased knowledge of industry-relevant applications and technologies under construction at MAX IV and ESS through outreach activities, seminars and workshops. We want to lower the threshold for medical technology industry, both nationally and internationally, to exploit the facilities, thus increasing accessibility. The proposed project is divided into two stages, where the first step involves mapping of existing applications as well as actors and their level of knowledge. The second step includes educational efforts and the initiation of pilot projects.
