LIGHTer PhD network
Research Project, 2019 – 2020

Purpose and goal
LIGHter PhD network will enable training of doctors in disciplines relevant to lightweight technologies and can enablew large future leaps in technology. The networking activities include a common basic course, core courses, workshops within the network and an annual graduate student conference coordinated with other LIGHter activities. This project´s objective has been to develop and establish LIGHter PhD network. The goals that have been set have been met. The network include 62 enrolled postgraduate students from across the country.

Expected results and effects
LIGHTer PhD network is planned to for a two-year period to recruit 20 PhD students per year. If the long-term financing can be obtained, then the target of 100 doctors in lightweight technology will be trained over a period of 10 years will be fulfilled.

Planned approach and implementation
Besides the basic course in lightweight technologies, two common activities are carried out each year to ensure that all students will be able to meet regularly. The basic course has been completed by 35 students. The fourth on-going round has 16 participants. The course ensures that the participants will have broad academic and industrial perspectives on lightweight technologies. Course polls show that targets are met and that the participants have obtained experiences and contacts that will benefit their own personal development and projects.
