Extreme Plasma Flares
Research Project, 2023 – 2028

The project combines theoretical and experimental competences from both space and laboratory plasma physics. Through systematic analysis of spacecraft observations, covering a wide range of plasma conditions in near-Earth plasmas, we will identify extreme acceleration events. In combination with advanced theoretical and numerical modelling we will analyze these events and determine the key underlying mechanisms for efficient electron acceleration. The expected results are of fundamental importance for the understanding of particle energization in the Universe and of practical importance for protecting technological infrastructure on Earth.
