VITUM - Virtual Turbine Module Demonstrator
Research Project, 2014 – 2017

The aim of the project is to demonstrate how innovative solutions can be developed if traditional modular and component interfaces are challenged and to enable a hardware demonstrator for Clean Sky II. The project aim to develop and demonstrate technologies and capabilities that can be realized as several components in a turbine module are functionally integrated. An example is the integrated plug´ concept that is used to focus and drive progress in the project.
Deliverables from the project is an open platform where variable geometric models that can be tailored to alternative engine architectures. Also, the establishment of a research network where companies, institutes and universities co develop engine demonstrators, enabling close supply chain involvement within a swedish research arena - Production technology center. The project build on research results that has been developed within pre-seeding, or ongoing, research h projects why the use of senior researchers dominate the resource base. The engagement of the company´s specialists as ´gränsgångare´ is a way to further strengthen collaboration with the partners.

GKN together with CHALMERS, BTH and Swerea IFV collaborate in the demonstrator that is a part of the Value Development Cluster.
