Pentaerutritolestrar som syntetiska smörjoljor - Analys av kommersiella oljor och framställning av rena derivat
Report, 1996

Four commercial synthetic lubricating oils based on esters of pentaerythritol have been analysed by way of NMR and mass spectroscopy to determine their purity and composition. Three of them are sold by ICI and one by LONZA. All are mixtures of several isomers which are beleived to form in the esterification step where mixtures of carboxylic acids are used. Four esters of penlaerylhritol have been synthesized in 79-90% yield. Two esters were prepared from straight-chain carboxylic acids, valeric and nonanoic, and two from branchedchain acids, 2-ethylhexanoic and 2-elhylbutyric. The purity for all esters is estimated to ≥ 90% based on NMR and MS.
