Improved lower bounds on the symbol error probability for coherently viterbi detected CPM signals
Paper in proceeding, 2002

Bounds on the symbol error probability for Viterbi detected Continuous Phase Modulation (CPM) signals are considered. The detector is coherent and the channel is an Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) channel. A new method for constructing a lower bound for CPM systems is suggested. It is shown that the lower bound can be substantially improved compared to previous approaches by considering the entire set of transmitted data sequences and not only the worst case. This generalized algorithm might be applied to any system which can be described as a finite state machine.
