Gottfried Semper (1803-1879) is regarded as one of the most significant architects, theater builders and one of the most influential cultural theorists of the 19th-century. On the occasion of his 200th birthday the most comprehensive retrospective was shown in Architekturmuseum in Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich and Museum für Gestaltung Zurich — providing an opportunity to take a closer look on his overall work and his significance as the father of modern opera house.
