Sustainable Development of Operations: “How to make it happen?”

Improving energy efficiency allows companies to further respond to the challenge of sustainable development. However, practices herein vary, and the way by which companies achieve positive results on energy efficiency need to be understood. In this study, multiple cases are analyzed to investigate how organizations do work with sustainable development of operations in terms of energy efficiency and what different initiatives they use to mobilize actions regarding energy efficiency. It is concluded that a considerable part of improvement of energy efficiency can be achieved through integrating efforts with already established continuous improvement processes in the organization and through engaging people.
