these principles to create smart assemblies of molecules to form for example biosensors, which test the sugar levels in your blood, an important tool for diabetes patients. The near future might use molecules for an even broader range of applications such as computers, molecular computers. The current computer technology is reaching its limit and one possibility is to use molecules. There exist for example molecules, which switch between two stable states, capable of encoding a binary 1 or 0 in a device.
This thesis describes the synthesis of molecules, which are tested to assemble on surfaces and fulfil certain tasks such as biosensing or the assembly of metal nanoparticles. This may help us to understand the assembly of molecules, how molecules interact with particles and how strong molecular interactions can be.
