Envelope of Rotating Parts Based on Motion and Variation Simulation Data
Journal article, 2007

This paper presents an algorithm to calculate and visualize the envelope of rotating parts for example doors, trunks and hoods. The envelope covers all possible displacement during the opening or closing. The simulation data used to capture this rotation envelop were collected from a variation simulation tool that is able to calculate the variation in different opening angles of a specific rotating part. A description of the algorithm on how to calculate the envelope of rotating parts is included. Finally, a case study is presented where the method in the paper is applied on an industrial example, collected from an automotive manufacturer.
