High-speed OTDM and impact of PMD

We discuss the impact of polarization mode dispersion (PMD) in high-speed fiber transmission. Special emphasis is put on PMD compensation techniques, and their intrinsic limitations. We also propose a new and simple distributed compensation scheme.
