EVALUATION OF NOVEL CORROSION PROTECTED ALUMINIUM EARTH WIRE FOR USE IN UNDERGROUND CABLE NETWORKS

An aluminum (Al) earth wire coated with semiconductive polyolefin has been evaluated based on laboratory testing, pilot installations, field measurements and life expectancy calculations. The result shows that the earth wire is suitable for use in underground cable networks. Limitations have been found in regards to radial conduction of lightning impulse currents.
