Understanding the Role Played by Intellectual Property Rights in Building Collaboration across the Biotech Industry: Identifying Performance Implications for Swedish Firms

This study aimed to determine how intellectual property rights (IPR) affect the performance of companies in Sweden’s biotechnology industry, as well as to establish the relationship between collaboration and organizational effectiveness. Several senior executives from biotechnology firms in Sweden were surveyed to gather information. The sample size was 276 respondents. Based on the study’s results, collaborations in the biotech industry in Sweden have been found to impact firm performance, and intellectual property rights significantly affect firm performance. The results showed that collaboration significantly affects company performance in Sweden’s biotechnology sector and that there is a strong correlation between IPR and firms’ performance. The findings from the study help develop policies within the Swedish biotechnology industry and have sound theoretical implications as well.
