Adaptive Provisioning of Time-Varying Traffic in Translucent SDM Elastic Optical Networks
Paper in proceeding, 2024

In this paper, we concentrate on resource allocation of time-varying traffic in translucent space-division multiplexing (SDM) elastic optical networks (EON) with back-to-back (B2B) signal regeneration. The performance is assessed in terms of bandwidth blocking probability, and the amount of accepted traffic. We formulate and evaluate an effective algorithm for time-varying traffic allocation that facilitates periodic reallocation of lightpaths to adapt the network to changing traffic patterns. The key novelty of our approach is that periodic reallocation is selectively applied to a limited number of lightpaths, chosen based on various criteria, to minimize the overall number of required reallocations. Simulations are run on a representative network topology with semi-synthetic time-varying traffic based on several types of network services.
