Quantification of Manufacturing-Induced Degradation in Stator Cores and the Restorative Role of Annealing
Paper in proceeding, 2026

This paper investigates the influence of manufacturing-induced stress on non-grain-oriented steels and evaluates the potential of annealing to restore their magnetic performance. To assess the recovery of magnetic properties, test specimens are examined after manufacturing processes, after which selected samples are subjected to annealing. This approach enables quantification of the extent to which annealing mitigates stress and improves magnetic performance. The results provide clear insight into the impact of various manufacturing processes on stator magnetic performance. Furthermore, heat treatment of standard samples indicates that residual stresses caused by laser cutting and punching can be reduced strongly, restoring the material to near-original performance. In addition, a study is conducted to evaluate the dependence of annealing effectiveness for samples in rolling and transverse to rolling direction.
