Synaps – a Modular Online Personal Digital Assistant System for Hospitals
Conference poster, 2007

Today healthcare personnel spend a lot of time locating and logging on to stationary workstations, only to find that the information they seek has not yet been delivered. A more effi-cient approach might be to inform doctors and nurses directly as soon as the relevant information becomes available. In the Synaps project, PDAs are used to provide appropriate online information at the right time using push technology. The Syn-aps system interacts with the hospital systems and presents e.g, lab reports on the user’s PDA as soon as they become available. The system has been developed in a user centered process with a focus group of doctors and nurses working closely together with the development team. Initial results indicate that the users are satisfied with the system and that significant time and resource savings are possible.
