Journal article, 2003

Abstract Manufacturing is the part of many companies that involves most of the investments made in the company. Thus it is extremely important to get a sufficient return on these investments. The manufacturing equipment must be utilized in a competitive way. This paper presents the findings from a survey at 145 medium sized companies in Sweden regarding their work with manufacturing strategies. 62 companies answered the form and 52 companies said that they had a manufacturing strategy. Quality, lead-time, and flexibility were considered very important. Delivery precision appears to be even more important than the actual product cost.
