The Concept of the "Wheelchair"

The concept of the “wheelchair” can be, and is often, seen as a limiting factor for contemporary architecture; a practical factor imposed by societal norms which reduce or make it harder to fulfill the “higher” ambitions of architecture. But in the notions of wheelchair several important aspects of architecture converge. In what at first may appear to be seemingly simple and almost technical requirements, different perspectives and questions of wider importance condense and connect lines of thought which take us in different directions.
