Collaborative Tracking and Tracing Applied on Dry Ports

The purpose of this paper is to analyse the benefits of the application of a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)-based Collaborative Tracking and Tracing (CTT) system on a logistics setting in which freight is transported by rail between a seaport and a dry port. The case study research method was used for this study and the empirical data were gathered through a research project, which was carried out in Sweden. The results indicate that opportunities for improving the speed of operations, resource utilization, timeliness of operations, safety of operations, and finally, improving the quality of data are created for multiple actors within the studied logistical setting after application of the CTT system.
