Composite materials for lightweight automotive applications
Other conference contribution, 2018

In this lecture novel composite materials aimed at providing lightweight solutions to the automotive industry are discussed. Firstly the needs and legislative requirements for development of more energy efficient road vehicles are discussed. Materials and systems solutions developed to meet these needs and requirements are then discussed. These materials comprise recent development of ultra-thin discontinuous carbon fibre tape composites and multifunctional structural power composites. In this context, issues related to electrification of road and air transport are also discussed.
