Domestic hot water heat pump: Modelling, analysis and flexibility assessment
Paper in proceeding, 2023

The current study deals with a demonstration of
how buildings can support the power system during power
deficit conditions, with a focus on using domestic hot water
heat pumps as a flexibility resource. A vapour compression heat
pump cycle is used for estimating the performance of the heat
pump during different operating conditions. Furthermore, this
model is integrated with a simple, yet detailed state space model
of the domestic hot water tank considering stratification. The
result shows that the domestic hot water heat pump under study
can provide flexibility by consuming no electricity for nearly
two hours, without compromising the thermal comfort. This is
realised by reducing the set point temperature of water by 5◦C.
