Hans Gruber is a PhD student working on additive manufacturing of metallic materials by powder bed fusion with focus on laser sintering; a rapidly growing technique that offers several benefits compared to conventional manufacturing processes. Further growth of the technique is limited by the low amount of alloys/powders and a high powder price.Hans’ research focuses on powder development, degradation and recycling and characterization of additively manufactured components. Focus is placed on Ni-based superalloys for high-temperature applications, such as rocket engines and gas turbines.
