Jonas Laukkonen Ravn

Postdoc at Industrial Biotechnology

Dr. Jonas Ravn has a MSc in Biotechnology from Copenhagen University and an Industrial PhD. from Novozymes and the Department of Bacteriology & Pathology at Ghent University, Belgium.

His research is focused on enzymes that break down plant carbohydrates and during his PhD, he developed and applied recombinant xylanolytic enzymes to study their prebiotic function in animal health. At Novozymes, he also developed microscopy visualization tools and automated high-throughput screening technology for enzyme stability and activity.

His postodoctoral research centered on exploring the role of wild yeast and thier enzyme systems to break down, metabolize and cycle the hemicellulose xylan. Ultimately, this may lead to new cell factories and industrially relevant enzymes in the production of biofuels and biochemicals.

Recently, he has started his 'TAGXY' project: "Tailormade glucuronoxylan-yeast cell factory by CRISPR engineering for precision fermentation of xylan waste streams into valuable bio-products", which is a Postdoctoral Fellowship grant within Industrial biotechnology awarded by Novo Nordisk Foundation. TAGXY focuses on yeast strain development using CRISPR-Cas9 technology to turn lignocellulosic waste from agriculture and forestry into valuble bioproducts.
