WinterSIM - Impact of the EEDI and recent trends in ship design on the operating performance the Finnish-Swedish Winter Navigation System - a simulation-based analysis
Research Project, 2021 – 2022

This project will analyse the future operating performance of the
Finnish-Swedish Winter Navigation System (FSWNS), considering
the impacts of the EEDI and the current trend of optimizing new iceclassed vessels to open water. The simulation will cover all ships that
are entitled to icebreaker assistance, calling at ice-bound Swedish
and or Finnish ports. The work will build on earlier simulation-based
approaches, which will be further developed and combined in this
project. New simulation input and validation parameters to be
specified include maritime traffic data, sea ice data, and future
merchant
