Bornitrid (hBN) förstärkt cementbaserad coating 2.0
Research Project, 2022
– 2023
Purpose and goal
The feasibility study (No. 2020-04860) has shown that functionalized hexagonal boron nitride (hBN, white graphene) gives the coating better adhesion and better resistance to chloride penetration without discoloration. The purpose of the current project is to further improve the hBN chemical composition and structure and to scale up the production of hBN-reinforced 2D material in cement-based coatings for construction and building demonstration in a real environment. At the same time, we will compare our product with existing commercial paint system.
Expected results and effects
With hBN, white graphene, we expect the product to provide a 50% improvement in adhesion and resistance to salt penetration into concrete substrates. We expect performance to be equal to or better than an established product on the market. We expect experience of how to manufacture the product on a pre-industrial slightly larger scale and to be able to present the technology and product commercially through our demonstration projects and through our partners.
Planned approach and implementation
The project is administrated by Lanark. hBN is characterized by Chalmers. hBN is mfg in collodial aqueous solution by SHT. Cement-based coating as dry mortar is mfg by Lanark. The product is mixed and tested by RISE. The results are analyzed jointly and, if necessary the characterization and mfg of hBN are adjusted and the process repeated. The product is demonstrated by Akademiska Hus in a representative construction reference project. The product is demonstrated by Skanska in a representative infrastructure reference project.
