RECLAIM of nutrients - digitalisation of a collaboration game for resource recovery in sanitation
Research Project, 2022
– 2024
A major challenge for the sanitation sector is to treat wastewater responsibly and increase resource recovery (SDG 6.3). A previous research project has developed a serious game (RECLAIM) as a tool to support planners and other actors to explore new systems for wastewater management, both in terms of physical infrastructure and management organizations. To be able to better disseminate the game, itneeds to be made digital. This project aims to make the game more accessible in order to spread knowledge that can support adjustment towards a circular economy, both in choice of technology and use of collaborative planning tools. We will develop prototypes of digital tools that can be used in combination with the game RECLAIM, and as an alternative when physical meetings are not possible. One prototype tool will be a simulation of nutrient flows, so that players/planners can visualize the consequences of different system solutions and jointly explore future possibilities. The project will hold four trainings for trainers who can use and spread the game further (2 each in Uganda & Sweden). Short films with good examples from use of the game and learning about resource recovery solutions will be made. The digitized game elements and films will be available open access and distributed via various channels on social media. We have a broad team of experts in wastewater management, resource recovery, participation in planning processes, digital visualization and communication
