Virtual Integrated Fan and Turbine (VIFT)
Research Project, 2023

Purpose and goal
Method development will be done with respect to noise analysis of a modern turbofan engine. A composite fan blade will be designed and aerodynamic design will be done of components critical for estimation of the noise level from an aircraft engine. The project also aims to maintain and further develop collaboration and knowledge sharing between industry and universities within the aerospace sector in Sweden.

Expected results and effects
The project is expected to produce a new methodology for estimation of noise from turbofan engines. Lessons gathered from previous projects will be utilized to create a proposal for a composite fan blade design. A whole engine model will be updated with new fan blades, low-pressure turbine as well as turbine outlet guide vanes. The methods developed in the project can be used to design low noise aircraft engines in the future.
