Digital high voltage diagnostics
Research Project, 2018 – 2020

With the high demand and fast development of HVDC transmission and digital substation technologies, the power industry needs the latest research on diagnostics to ensure their components’ reliability and university requires more practical industry experiences on digital substation to keep the education up-to-date. Thus, the main purpose of this individual mobility project from Chalmers to ABB corporate research center is to exchange and develop the technique knowledge within the area of digital high voltage diagnostics. The project is planned to work within the following three specific topics where both academic and industry can benefit from each other: 1) Capacitor end of life investigation, where my research experiences developed during PhD studies can help ABB in detection of imminent power capacitor failure; 2) Digital substations for education: Deeper knowledge on digital substation can be obtained from work related to diagnostic of substation components and used for Chalmers education. 3) Charge density measurement development: Both ABB and Chalmers will exchange and gain knowledge in development of pulse electroacoustic measurement technique for insulation material studies.
